Microscopes are now using LED Lighting

LED lighting on traditional microscopes has a number of advantages. In general LEDs outlast tungsten globes. The effect of tungsten filament heating is not a design issue with LEDs. LEDs are powered from low voltage DC sources so do not require the same power output. As they can be powered by battery microscopes using LEDs can be used as a field instrument. An example of a dual LED light source monocular microscope is shown below.

A Lab Tech comment about our entry level battery powered LED microscopes.

“Those microscopes are still going strong, the best investment in microscopes we have made. They are so versatile!
We have a young casual Science teacher at the moment who is here on a visa from UK. Her husband is doing research at Newcastle Uni and she has just completed her Masters in Biological Sciences …... Yesterday she wanted to take a class outside and to look at organisms under a microscope – she came into my prep room lamenting that she couldn't take microscopes with her –
I demonstrated these microscopes, and she was ecstatic! She had a great class outside, and the students enjoyed doing it.”
